Youth hunter bags 22-pound, double-bearded gobbler

Double-birded gobbler was the young hunter’s first turkey.

Tenley Schutte killed a double-bearded, 22-pound gobbler on March 16, 2024, which was Youth Day in South Carolina. She shot the turkey on private land in Horry County at about 7:45 a.m.

This was the young hunter’s first turkey, and she shot it with a 20-gauge.

The big bird gobbled at first light, responding to some crows fighting.

“Two yelps and 10 minutes later, the turkey gave her a 20-yard shot,” said Jon Schutte.

Entering her turkey in the Get A Gobbler Contest gives Tenley a shot at winning a Yeti Loadout 5-gallon bucket with lid and caddy, a Tactacam Reveal X Pro cellular trail camera with 32GB SD card, and a Spyderco lockblade folding knife.
