Kershaw County youth hunter kills first gobbler

Knox Shelton killed his big gobbler with a .410 on March 31, 2024.

Youth hunter Knox Shelton was hunting in Kershaw County, SC on March 31 when he killed his first turkey. It was his first ever turkey hunt, and it was the first time he ever shot his .410 single shot during a hunt.

The bird came in at 15 yards, responding to a Reaper turkey call during the hunt, which took place around 7 a.m. on private land. The gobbler had a 10.5-inch beard and weighed 19.4 pounds.

Entering his turkey in the Get A Gobbler Contest gives Shelton a shot at winning a Yeti Loadout 5-gallon bucket with lid and caddy, a Tactacam Reveal X Pro cellular trail camera with 32GB SD card, and a Spyderco lockblade folding knife.
